Background:
This lovely dog had a very difficult start in life, which caused him to lose trust in humans. Because of past scary experiences, he developed behaviours to keep people well away.
Over several months, we worked together to make changes in his home and gently introduced new experiences to help him feel safer around people. We provided a new toolkit to help him learn different (and more appropriate and safe) ways to respond, and gradually began to understand that not all humans are frightening.
To keep everyone safe during this process, we also introduced muzzle training in a fun and positive way, so he could continue building confidence while exploring new coping strategies.
Client feedback:
Thank you Emily for all your help with our dogs behaviour. All three of us will miss our sessions with you.
We rescued our Airedale about a year ago. He is now 4 years old and he had several problems. Our main concern was his aggression. He was reactive to many things – loud and sudden noises, motor bikes, high-vis jackets etc. People attempting to stroke his head would be greeted with a growl and a snap at their fingers. We are experienced Airedale owners, having had 3 previously, and love their character.
However it was clear the biting had to be dealt with and we needed professional help. We consulted Emily and she took time to get to know our dog. Over several sessions and following her suggestions we changed several aspects of his life.
We are so pleased with how he has responded. Our dog is now a much happier boy and we are much more confident of his behaviour in public.
If you have a dog you are worried about do give Emily a call.
